Poetry Reading at the Central Square Library

On Sunday, June 7th at 6 pm, I'll be at the Central Square Library sharing poems from my latest book, Reach Out in the Darkness: How Pop Music Saved My Mortal Soul. The book's theme focuses on how the music of the 1960s and '70s profoundly influenced my teen years. While the poems are understandably personal to my experience, audiences from previous presentations have noted how they were able to relate them to their own turbulent years. Part of the reason for this is because of the performances by Matthew Wood and Gina Holsopple, who will accompany me at the presentation with  great cover versions of some of those '60s songs. Hearing Gina recreate Janis Joplin or Matthew evoke James Taylor always inspires my readings of the poems. I look forward to this event and hope you can join us.

My Latest Books on THE BLIZZARD OF '66 and Weatherman Bob Sykes!

I have completed my research and interviews and written a book about The Blizzard of '66, sometimes known as "The Storm of the Century" for Central New Yorkers or "We Didn't Have School for a Week!" for us baby boomers!

I've also completed a biography of Bob Sykes, meteorology professor from SUNY Oswego and sometimes called "The Grandfather of Lake Effect Snow." Bob played an amazing role during The Blizzard of '66 (anybody remember his forecasts on WSGO?), but he also led a fascinating life beyond that storm and Oswego, New York.

Writers' Café is back!

The CNY Arts Center is again sponsoring a venue for writers to share their work. The casual and supportive setting allows new and experienced writers to "test' their work and get feedback. People are welcome to share poetry, a chapter from a novel or memoir, an article for a newspaper or blog posting, etc. This program is open to all ages. No need to register ahead of time. Just show up! I'll be facilitating the event which runs the last Sunday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. NOTE: DUE TO HOW THE HOLIDAYS FALL THIS YEAR, WE WILL BE HOSTING OUR NEXT CAFE ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 17TH AT 6PM. BEGINNING IN FEBRUARY, THE CAFES WILL RESUME ON THE LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH (FEBRUARY 28)
